Jaclyn Hill X Morphe Dark Magic Palette (Review and Swatches)

Jaclyn Hill X Morphe Dark Magic Palette (Review and Swatches)

Have you ever felt intimidated by an eyeshadow palette? I will fully admit that the Dark Magic palette intimidated me and it took me awhile to get around to trying it. These colors are not in my every day collection. This is why it's the 4th palette review of the Vault collection on my blog. I really like stepping outside of my comfort zone when it comes to eyeshadow but sometimes it takes me a while to warm up to it. Especially, when a palette is as dark as this one. I decided to look at tutorials on Youtube and give this palette a try. I watched Angela Bright and followed this tutorial. I thought it looked wearable and decided to give it a try. I was so happy with my look and ecstatic that I finally tried this palette.

This mattes in this palette don't swatch that well, I will tell you that. The darker mattes performed great on the eyes and I blended my swatches a bit to give you a better idea of the colors. Again, I had no issues with the performance but dark mattes are hard to swatch nicely. These mattes don't feel dry wither. They just don't swatch as easily as a shimmer shade. The shimmers in this palette are very unique and beautiful. I don't think I have any shades like this in my collection. I also didn't have much fall out with the mattes and I always spray my shimmers to reduce fallout and foil the shade.

I'm very comfortable with my browns, oranges and red toned shadows and I know some colors are harder to blend than others. I thought this palette would be hard to work with, and it really wasn't. I started small, and built up the color and it came out very nice. The shade SHHH worked very well as a transition shade and I used Potion and Inside Job in the crease. I darkened the outer corner with Busted and Temptress.  On the lid I have Power Cut and Diversion. Both are so unique and gorgeous! This palette really surprised me the most out of all 4 palettes in the collection. It was really easy to work with and so different from my usual look. This is why I picked up the entire Vault collection, while I tend to stick to my neutral warm shades; it's fun to step outside and try something new.

  1. I haven't tried any of the Morphe eyeshadows. I would always get nervous they wouldn't blend well and I'm always troubled when it comes to blending. I love the shimmers in this palette!

    1. I'm glad I gave it a try. It's find to try makeup, if it doesn't work you can wash it off.

  5. This palette calls fall. All the shades are so fall appropriate. Love the smoky look on you Jennifer. I rarely do smoky eyes. I had plans to purchase all the four but their release got delayed and I did not purchase. :-)
