Two Drugstore Primers: I'Oreal Infallible Glow-Lock, and Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer

Two Drugstore Primers: I'Oreal Infallible Glow-Lock, and Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer

I didn't know what all the fuss was about when it came to primers until I started using them. Today, I'm going to review the L'Oreal Infallible Glow-Lock primer and the Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating primer, both have been in my rotation and I've had a long time to put my thoughts together.

Let's talk about the L’Oreal Infallible Glow Lock primer. If you're looking at this product in the drugstore, you will see a Glow-Lock version and a Matte-Lock version. I don't typically look for matte complexion products, but I was curious about the Glow-Lock version. This primer does provide some hydration, it blurs imperfections, gives you a pearlescent base that stays tacky. This tackiness helps to lock in a radiant foundation for longer lasting wear time. I haven’t tried many tacky primers, I know some makeup gurus swear by them but I do feel like it helped to lock in what I was putting on top. Typically, dewy foundations are not as long lasting as a matte foundation but the Glow-Lock helps to lock it in place. In the summer months, this would be perfect. It's very lightweight and quick to apply. If you're looking at the Glow-Lock and thinking about the L'Oreal Glotion, they're two very different products. The Glotion can be worn on no makeup days, it doesn’t stay tacky and it provides a radiance on its own. The Glow-Lock has a little bit of a glow but not much. Its purpose is to really hold on to the glowy product you put on top.

The Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer is one that I’ve been testing out for a while now. It’s a primer that I go back to when I’m just looking for hydration; when I want a base under my foundation. On my dry skin, hydration is much appreciated. This primer is a hydrating "primer lotion" that has a gel consistency. It absorbed quickly into my skin and is very emollient and cooling. At times, I do have to powder some foundations because they start to sink into my fine lines when using this primer. I think this is due to it being so emollient, the foundation moves around. I do recommend this primer for those who are looking for a simple primer that can give you some added hydration. I've also skipped my moisturizer and just used this if I was in a rush. I don't think that's recommended but hey, I'm a working mom. I do enjoy this primer, especially during these colder months. If you've used the Laura Mercier hydrating primer this does remind me of that but it's not as thin of a formula.

  2. I've yet to find a primer that makes my make up stay in place, although I think that might also be due to the foundations I use! Like the sound of the L'Oreal one :)

  7. The hard candy primer sounds amazing! It is a good idea to use primer instead of moisturizer if you're in a time crunch

  9. I stay away from glow-y primers and foundations because of my oily skin. I have the L'Oreal matte lock one which you have mentioned. It is great for my oily skin. I have never tried any Hard Candy products yet but sounds good for no makeup days. :-)
